Sylvia is a kind, gentle person with a big heart.  Her softness is reflected in her work giving it an element of beauty and peace.  Her paintings are symbols of love and harmony, which make them a joy to have in one’s home.

Sylvia plans to take a class in painting on silk from Insoon Felch, beginning in October.  Painting on silk is a technique that Insoon learned in her Korean homeland.  It will be exciting to see how Sylvia adapts that technique to her own personal style.

Sylvia Hoeve lives in Nashville, Michigan with her husband, Russ.

Beautiful Art Show by a Local Artist

There will be an art show of Sylvia Hoeve’s oil paintings, watercolors and pastels at Insoon’s Art Gallery in Middleville.  The show begins on September 22nd and runs through November 30th.  There will be a reception with free food and drink on October 11th, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.  Insoon’s gallery is located at 6869 North Whitneyville Rd., just south of Parmalee Rd. and two miles east of M-37.  The gallery’s hours are from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Tuesday through Friday.

Sylvia Hoeve’s art is inspired by her faith.  She sees beauty in God’s creation and tries to express her understanding of that beauty in everything she paints.  Her artwork is infused with her passion and prayer.  She paints portraits, figures, animals, flowers, landscapes, angels and abstracts.  Many of her oil paintings combine different artistic elements: such as a child feeding a horse in a landscape or a woman in a garden.

She began drawing as a young child, and then graduated to ink drawings, water colors and pastels in later childhood.  As an adult she took up oil painting, studying under Sue Trowbridge, Pat Ashley, Craig Bishop, Insoon Felch, and Steve Allen.  Sylvia works independently at her studio at home now, doing her own work and also taking commissions.  Several of her commissions have been portraits of people who are deceased.  Sylvia portrays the reposed people in heavenly settings, which bring great comfort to their loved ones.  She also does portraits of living people and animals.  She is especially good at capturing the spirit of children on canvas in oils.
